Why Ironwood exists

Ironwood is one person: me. I write these books for my son and share them with any family that finds them useful.

I started the first one the day I found out he was coming. I kept asking myself what I knew that was worth passing on. If I could not be there to say it, what would I want written down? That question became The Ways of the World, a short guide for teenagers about power, money, human nature, and thinking for yourself.

The picture books came after. In the Curious Kid stories, the kid asks the questions and meets people who have wrestled with big ideas. Each book follows one idea from beginning to end.

Ironwood is a name used for different trees around the world. Some have been used for tool handles, boats, and homes. I liked what the name suggests: strong material put to work. That is what I want these ideas to be for kids.

I cannot know what work my son will do, or what the world will ask of him. I can give him ideas and tools he can use wherever life takes him, whether he becomes a farmer, a scientist, or something no one has named yet. That is the reason for Ironwood.

Books are where Ironwood starts. I hope to share these ideas in other ways too. Every ebook is free. If you want one on the shelf, the paperback is on Amazon.

What every book has to pass

One idea, made clear

Each book follows one idea from start to finish. We tell it as a story, not a lecture.

Useful beyond the page

We look for ideas a child can carry into another part of life, not facts to memorize and forget.

The reader does the building

We show an idea at work. Kids make it their own and decide what to do with it.
